Oh Seung-hwan of the St. Louis Cardinals is being touted as a candidate for National League Rookie of the Year.
Assessing the performances of this season’s rookies, U.S. sports broadcaster ESPN listed six contenders in the NL, including Oh and Kenta Maeda of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
ESPN commented that there are "way too many choices here that could all be the right answer."
It is rare for a relief pitcher like Oh to be considered a candidate for Rookie of the Year. Oh has been the most used reliever in the Cardinals' bullpen this season and put in some great performances.
CBS Sports in a recent article said that Oh "continues dominance on mound."
ESPN also described the American League Rookie of the Year contest as a "coin flip" between Park Byung-ho of the Minnesota Twins and Nomar Mazara of the Texas Rangers.
