Fruit Can Help with Constipation

      Fresh fruit is far more effective than dietary fiber supplements or drugs in treating constipation brought on by excessive dieting, according to a survey.

      Diet clinic 365mc surveyed 374 people in their 20s and 30s and found that eight out of 10 suffered from constipation while trying to lose weight.

      Some 52 percent said eating fruit is the best way to treat constipation, followed by exercise (34 percent), medicine (27 percent) and dietary fiber supplements (15 percent).

      The best foods to overcome constipation are apples, bananas and grapefruit.

      Others suggested yoghurt or other dairy products, vegetables and seafood.

      "Constipation is a common side effect of dieting to lose weight and the biggest reason is a decline in caloric consumption," a clinic staffer said. "To prevent it you need to maintain a certain level of caloric intake and improve eating and other habits."
