Korean Air has won the lucky dip to run direct flights to Iran for the first time in 40 years.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Friday allocated the license for four direct Incheon-Tehran flights per week to Korean Air, leaving Asiana Airlines empty-handed.
A Korean Air spokesman said the carrier will start with cargo flights followed by passenger transport.
The ministry also authorized increased flights from Korea to India from six to 13 a week, giving seven to Korean Air and six to Asiana.
