A Vietnamese was caught in Daegu on Wednesday five days after he forced his way through an automatic immigration checkpoint at Incheon International Airport last week.
The 25-year-old man had been hiding in a house in Daegu and was apprehended in the early afternoon, according to the Incheon Immigration Office.
The house belongs to a fellow Vietnamese man. "We discovered the suspect's hiding place by tracking smartphone messages they exchanged since his illegal entry," an immigration officer said.
The immigration office believes the owner of the house is a broker and will seek for arrest warrants for both of them.
The first man forced his way through the gate of an unmanned automatic immigration checkpoint at the airport on Jan. 29.
The duty officer was away from his post at the time. The alarm sounded, but nobody noticed.
Immigration officers began searching for him only after he failed to board his onward flight two-and-a-half hours later. It took them 11 hours to confirm he had sneaked through the gate.
