Business sentiment for the first quarter of this year fell to a three-year low due to the slowing economy here and in China.
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry said on Tuesday that the Business Survey Index for the quarter stood at 81 points, six points down from the previous quarter and the lowest since the first quarter of 2013. It surveyed 2,400 manufacturing businesses nationwide in November and December last year.
A reading below 100 means pessimists outnumber optimists.
When asked about what the government should focus on to revitalize the economy, 38.2 percent said "boosting domestic consumption," followed by "easing regulations" (21 percent), "nurturing innovative businesses" (19.4 percent), "labor reform" (13.7 percent) and "financial reform" (5.6 percent).
