Celebrities either do not age at all or age horribly, depending which section of the tabloid press people consult. But apparently one of their secrets is to skip breakfast, often said to be the most important meal of the day.
The Daily Mail in an article by sports scientist Peta Bee and dietitian Sarah Schenker revealed secrets that are a long way from the conventional wisdom.
"As our metabolisms slow we need fewer calories to survive at 40 than we did at 30, decreasing with every advancing year," the paper claims. Eating only when hungry is important, and leaving a three to four-hour gap between meals will help people stay slim and young-looking.
Posture is important as well. "As the important postural muscles of the core and abdomen start to weaken and the jelly-like disks between the vertebrae of the spine dry out and become thinner, women's bodies often revert to the foetal position as they get older: the head and shoulders shift forwards, the chest curls inwards and the spine crunches into a 'C' position as the pelvis tilts forward."
Jogging is helpful when trying to lose weight in a short time, but can make women look aged with "sunken cheeks and hollow eyes."
Rather than running, going for a walk for 20 to 45 minutes a day four times a week is a much better idea, according to the authors. A good night's sleep and sex life also help.
