Welterweight fighter Kim Dong-hyun beat Dominic Waters of the U.S. in a first-round technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 79, a mixed martial arts event held in Seoul on Saturday.

The first UFC event ever held in Korea was over in just 3 minutes and 11 seconds when Kim pounded Waters into submission.

With Waters unable to defend himself from Kim's repeated punches, the referee stopped the fight and declared Kim the winner by TKO.

In a previous welterweight bout, Choo Sung-hoon, also known as Yoshihiro Akiyama, lost to Brazil's Alberto Mina in a 2-1 split decision. Mina controlled the first two rounds, but the third saw Choo fight back fiercely against a visibly exhausted Mina.

Choo, a Korean-Japanese former judoka, fought in front of an appreciative home crowd, saying at the post-match press conference, "I was able to fight until the end thanks to the cheers from the fans."
