The population of Gyeonggi Province surrounding Seoul has increased for the eighth straight month as more residents from Seoul leave the capital in search of affordable homes.
According to Statistics Korea on Wednesday, the Gyeonggi net population increased by 9,392 in October, the most in the country. Coming in second was the new administrative city of Sejong with 4,804 new residents followed by Ulsan with 1,477 new residents.
In contrast, Seoul saw a net outflow of 14,997 residents, while Busan's net population decreased by 1,756 and Daejeon's by 1,716.
Last month, 653,000 households moved to new homes, down 2.5 percent compared to the same month last year. Home lease and rent contracts fell 6.8 percent on-year to some 122,600.
