Confectioner Orion has achieved cumulative sales of W1 trillion in Vietnam, where the Korean company is leading the market (US$1=W1,184).

The confectioner said Wednesday that it posted sales of W84 billion in Vietnam in the first half of this year to amount to W1.22 trillion in cumulative sales there since it entered the market 20 years ago.

Orion started to export its Choco Pie in 1995 and built a production factory in Ho Chi Minh in 2006 and a second factory in Hanoi in 2009. Its annual sales in the country surpassed W100 billion in 2010, and last year, it recorded sales of W150.1 billion.

The food company plans to use Vietnam, which has a population of nearly 100 million, as a launching point to expand into neighboring Southeast Asian nations.
