Hong Sang-soo's "Right Now, Wrong Then" won the highest honor at the 68th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland on Saturday.

It was the first time in 26 years that a Korean film won the Golden Leopard at Locarno.

Jung Jae-young, who stars, also won the award for best actor.

"Why Has Bodhi-Dharma Left for the East?" by Bae Yong-kyun was the first Korean film to win the top prize in 1989. Hong also won the Silver Leopard for Best Director in 2013 with "Our Sunhi."

Founded in 1946, the Locarno Film Festival is one of the most prestigious in Europe along with Berlin, Cannes and Venice.

"Right Now, Wrong Then" will be released in Korea in September.
