The period espionage film "Assassination" got off to a good start by setting new records at the box office.
It has already taken the No. 1 spot in ticket sales this year on opening day and drawn 3.37 million viewers in its first week of release.
The film is directed by Choi Dong-hoon who also helmed "The Thieves" which drew more than 10 million viewers at the time of release in 2012.
Set in Shanghai and Seoul in the 1930s during the occupation by imperial Japan, the movie starring Jun Ji-hyun, Lee Jung-jae and Ha Jung-woo depicts three Korean independence fighters joining hands to assassinate the commander of Japanese troops.
The movie drew more than 3 million viewers just a day after the number of viewers surpassed two million.
