Chung Mong-joon, the honorary president of the Korea Football Association, on Sunday met with his strongest rival for the FIFA presidency, Michel Platini, in the U.S.
Platini is the president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
Chung talked with Platini in Philadelphia, where the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup was held between Mexico and Jamaica. Chung proposed a competition in good faith.
The FIFA presidential election will be held on Feb. 26 next year. Chung is going to announce his candidacy in Europe in mid-August.
Although he has not yet announced his candidacy, Platini is considered a strong contender for the FIFA presidency with a wide range of support in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
