Sweltering weather will likely persist throughout July as another heat wave is on the way.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said Tuesday that the heat wave is hitting the country, with the day's high in Seoul reaching 33 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
A heat warning was issued for the eastern part of Gyeonggi Province and the western part of Gangwon Province as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
The heat wave is attributed to the scorching summer sun and typhoons that carry hot, tropical air to the Northeast Asian region. Typhoon Chan-hom passed through China, Japan and the Korean Peninsula before dissipating on Monday, and another typhoon Nangka is advancing north toward Japan.
The two typhoons have brought the hot air with them, and the hot sun is scorching the ground, a weatherman explained.
