String of New Cars to Heat Up the Competition

      Competition in the car market here is likely to heat up even further in July as a string of new cars are set to hit the showrooms. The latest supercars from Ferrari and McLaren will also join the competition.

      GM Korea is to unveil the new Chevrolet Spark subcompact on Wednesday and begin to accept pre-orders. The new Spark, which was first introduced at the 2015 Seoul Motor Show in April, sports a new engine and transmission. The deluxe model is equipped with a lane-departure warning system and other advanced safety features. Prices will be available at the launch.

      On Thursday, Hyundai will roll out its 2016 Sonata. The popular midsize sedan will add two new versions to its lineup -- 1.6-liter gasoline turbo and 1.7-liter diesel models.

      Kia's new K5 midsize sedan, for which the automaker has high expectations, will be released in mid-July. Since the company launched it at the Seoul Motor Show, it has received some 5,000 pre-orders.

      Ssangyong will release a diesel version of the Tivoli small SUV, which proved a hit when it launched early this year.

      Among foreign brands, FCA Korea, the importer of Chrysler vehicles, will introduce the redesigned 300C large sedan next week, which comes with a new eight-speed auto transmission and more safety features. Mercedes-Benz will roll out its new B-Class sedan. The Ferrari 488GTB supercar will make its debut in Korea on July 16, while the wide body version of the British McLaren 650S will also be imported.
