Limousine Service to Hit the Road in September

More public transportation options will be available as early as September, as premium sedans like Mercedes-Benzes and BMWs will begin operating as taxis, offering passengers the chance to ride in luxury and comfort.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to revise relevant laws to give more options to passengers.

According to the draft guidelines, the limousine cab services will be operated on a reservation-only basis. Operators will be able to set their own fares, but they will be required to inform passengers of the rates at the time of booking.

Inside the cabs, passengers will find tablet PCs, slippers and soft drinks.

The cabs will look like ordinary passenger vehicles, as they will not be required to carry a meter or roof sign. The sole indicator will be the yellow license plate. Operators must use vehicles with 2,800-cc engines or larger, such the Benz S Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Hyundai Equus or Genesis, and Kia K9 or K7.

It is expected that around 30 to 100 such taxis will be on the streets within this year.
