Automakers are making efforts to drum up business as summer is the low season for the industry. They are even offering discounts on newly released cars.

Kia Motors on Sunday lowered the price of the most popular trim package for its new K5 by between W1.3 million and W1.7 million (US$1=W1,108).

A Kia staffer said, "We will offer additional benefits, throwing in a latest model Bluetooth speaker worth W200,000 for those who buy the new K5 by Sept. 30."

Carmakers are also reducing the prices of existing models.

GM Korea will offer a discount of up to W2 million to cash buyers this month. A discount of W1.5 million is available to those who buy Orlando Platinum and W2 million to customers of the Captiva Adventure. Price reductions of between W1.2 million and W1.8 million are available to those buying Alpheon, Malibu and Spark.

Japanese brand Honda is giving W1-million discounts to existing Honda drivers who buy a Legend large sedan or Odyssey minivan.
