North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has embarked on around 100 building projects in the impoverished state since he came to power, from a ski resort to a water park.

Kim has apparently ordered frequent design changes to suit his capricious tastes, leading to wasted resources and manpower.

Curtis Melvin of the U.S.-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University told Radio Free Asia on Thursday that satellite photos on Google map revealed that a new skating rink in South Pyongan Province was demolished within a year of construction and is being turned into a movie theater.

A satellite photo dating back to October of 2013 shows a skating rink under construction, but a photo of the same place a year later shows a theater being built.
