Kia is expected to see its cumulative global SUV sales exceed the 10 million mark in June, accounting for some 30 percent of its total cumulative sales of 31.7 million cars.
So far this year alone, the carmaker sold more than 490,000 SUVs, accounting for 39 percent of its overall sales.
Kia has introduced a series of popular SUVs including the Sportage, Sorento and Carnival since its first SUV the Rockstar in 1990.

The Sorento has seen sales of over 905,000 units since its launch in 2002, making it the best-selling Korean SUV in the U.S. The Sportage R, which was released in 2010, has posted an average 10 percent rise in sales every year.
Hyundai plans to boost lackluster sales in North America with the new Tucson SUV.
"Last month we began producing the Tucson for export to the U.S. in an attempt to hit showrooms there next month at the latest," a Hyundai spokesman said. "Given the popularity of SUVs in the U.S., it will help improve our market share there."
