Foreign automakers are targeting the used car market in Korea due to the explosive popularity of imported cars here. Many sellers are enticing used car buyers with one-year free maintenance guarantees and other perks.

Mercedes-Benz and BMW have already begun selling used cars and Volkswagen and Audi plan to follow suit this year.

The domestic used car market has burgeoned from sales of 177,028 vehicles in 2012 to 211,640 in 2013. Last year, it stood at 247,141 vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz, which currently has three used car dealerships, will open four more nationwide. The automaker claims it sells "internally certified" vehicles only, which are about four years old with less than 100,000 km on the clock and went through some 180 safety checks.

BMW plans to increase its used car dealerships from 10 to 12 this year. Volkswagen and Audi will launch their used car dealerships in the first and second half of this year.
