Korean tennis player Chung Hyeon was named as one of 10 players to keep an eye on in the qualifying round for the French Open.
The official website of the French Open described Chung as a "rising star."
"No.69 in the world and yet having to go through qualifying at a Grand Slam -- stranger things have happened, but not many," according to the website.
The top 104 players in the world rankings automatically qualify in the majors. When entries for the French Open were finalized in early April, Chung was in 121st place, and therefore did not qualify.
But his ranking began to soar soon afterwards. He won the Savannah Challenger on Apr. 27 and the Busan Open on May 10 to reach No. 69.
"Does this make him the man to fear in qualifying? That remains to be seen: the 18-year-old Korean has not played on European clay since his junior days two years ago," the website said.
Sixteen players who win all three matches in the qualifying round will be able to play in the French Open.
