Asian nations took the top five spots in the latest OECD ranking of students based on achievement in math and science.
Singapore topped the list of 76 countries followed by Hong Kong and Korea. Japan and Taiwan shared fourth place. Finland, which often places first in the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment, came in sixth this year. Canada placed 10th, Germany 13th, the UK 20th, France 23rd, and the U.S. 28th.
African countries sat near the bottom, with South Africa in 75th place and Ghana in 76th. China was not included in this year's findings.
The OECD has published the survey since 2000, but this is the first time it has included developing nations.
