It will be a rainy long weekend for most people as downpours are forecast for much of the first week of May throughout the country.

The Korea Meteorological Administration on Wednesday said it will be clear across the country on Friday, the first day of the long weekend, but then start to rain on Saturday afternoon in Jeju and the southwest.

The rain front will expand across the country by Sunday except for eastern Gangwon Province.

In the south, rain will start on Saturday afternoon and stop by Sunday evening. In Seoul and central parts, it will start to rain on Sunday morning but clear in the afternoon, and rain will resume on Monday morning.

The daytime high in Seoul on Friday and Saturday will be 26 to 27 degrees Celsius, but that will drop to 20 to 21 with rain on Sunday and Monday.

Clear skies are predicted for Tuesday, Children's Day, with daytime high for Seoul a pleasant 22 degrees.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Tuesday predicted 32 million people will hit the roads nationwide during the long weekend from Friday to next Tuesday.

The most severe traffic is expected on Saturday morning from Seoul to other parts of the country, and Sunday afternoon on the way back. KORAIL will operate additional trains in the Seoul metropolitan area as more people are expected to visit recreational sites such as Seoul Grand Park.
