North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's younger sister Yo-jong is pregnant and expected to give birth next month, National Intelligence Service chief Lee Byung-ho said Wednesday.
The NIS chief revealed the information in a closed-door session of the National Assembly's Intelligence Committee, but two lawmakers later briefed reporters, an established ritual.
"Although the identity of the spouse is not clearly known, there is speculation that he is an alumnus of Kim's from Kim Il-sung University," Saenuri Party lawmaker Lee Cheol-woo said. He added there is no information on the husband's family background.

A photo of Kim Yo-jong visiting a childcare center in January showed her wearing a wedding ring. Rumors of her pregnancy spread as she was spotted with a swollen face and wearing flat shoes.
There are rumors that her husband works for the Workers Party's Room 39, which manages Kim Jong-un's slush funds, or that he comes from an elite military contingent that guards the North Korean leader.
But a government source here denied Chinese media reports that Kim had married the son of Workers Party secretary Choe Ryong-hae.
North Korean media refer to Kim Yo-jong as a vice minister but do not say for what. North Korea watchers believe she was promoted last month to head the party's propaganda department after an octogenarian dinosaur retired.
