Korean fried-chicken chain Genesis BBQ is expanding its presence to the U.S. fast-food market. Under an agreement with local company Levy Restaurants, it will sell products at Levy shops and kiosks at large sports facilities there, the firm said Monday.
Genesis BBQ will open its first outlet at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in June, the company said in a press release. It has also forged a sponsorship deal the NFL team Atlanta Falcons so that the brand can be featured inside the stadium.
The firm plans to open outlets largely in areas with a huge Korean-American population and try to clinch sponsorship deals with MLB and NBA clubs. Spectators will be able to buy the Korean-brand chicken at the Los Angeles Dodgers' Dodger Stadium as well as the NBA's Staples Center (LA Lakers) and Barclays Center (Brooklyn Nets) within this year.
Levy Restaurants have a concession to sell food and drinks on 125 university campuses and 92 stadiums for NFL, MLB, NBA and NCAA games in the U.S. Partners include the usual suspects -- McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Papa John's Pizza and Domino's Pizza -- and annual sales stand at around W3 trillion.
