President Park Geun-hye headed to hospital as soon as she returned from a tour of Latin America on Monday and was diagnosed with stomach cramps and a swollen throat due to fatigue.
A senior Cheong Wa Dae official said Park "will be resting on Tuesday and won't be able to attend any functions until Wednesday."
Park accepted Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo's resignation over a bribery scandal but will be making no comment on the matter until she recovers. The search for a successor has also been postponed.
Park developed a fever and cough at the start of her 12-day trip to four Latin American nations and had to receive several intravenous injections. She canceled a traditional meeting with reporters aboard her official plane on her way back to Seoul on Sunday.
A Cheong Wa Dae official claimed she "wanted to hold a press meeting as planned, but her doctors recommended she get some rest. She had a 40-degree fever during the flight back and developed a skin rash."
