Korea University will offer a training course to help North Korean defectors learn the basics of business management and eventually assist them in setting up their own businesses.
The university will accept applications until May and select some 100 eligible students. It plans to offer the course annually under an agreement with JP Morgan, which will provide about W255.6 million in funding (US$1=W1,093).
"North Korean defectors find it difficult to land a job here due to their isolation from the outside world, among other reasons. Giving them an opportunity to make a living and launch their own start-ups is a practical way to help them adapt to their new lives in South Korea," said Yeom Jae-ho at Korea University.
