Thwarting her best friend's ambition to win titles in two consecutive weeks, Ryu So-yeon chased overnight leader Park In-bee until the very last hole to win the World Ladies Championship on the Ladies European Tour.
When Ryu sank the match-winning putt on the 18th at Mission Hills in Hainan, China on Sunday, Park offered her heartfelt congratulations, warmly embracing her friend.
The two Koreans may have been chatting about fashion and married life throughout the final round, but their play was consistently at the highest level.
In the fourth and final round, Ryu bagged seven birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey to card a 13-under 279, one stroke ahead of Park, who struck three birdies and one bogey.
It is Ryu's first European tour title, which she adds to three U.S. LPGA titles and three LPGA of Korea titles.
Suzann Pettersen of Norway and China's Xiyu Lin tied for third place on 10-under.
