There is an optimum time of day to burn off those unwanted pounds. Exercising on an empty stomach in the morning enables the body to burn off more fat than at other times of the day.
It is better to exercise when the body is short on carbohydrates so it can start burning off fat instead, and that is the morning hours before breakfast.
But this type of exercise routine is not for everyone. People with high blood pressure or diabetes should avoid early-morning workouts on an empty stomach, since this could trigger low blood-sugar levels. People with high blood pressure or diabetes should hit the treadmill after dinner instead.
Diabetics need to exercise regularly in order to control their blood-sugar level, and the best time is an hour after dinner.
People who are busy working or socializing in the evening will usually not benefit a lot from exercise in the morning because they secrete fewer adrenocortical hormones in the morning.
Adrenocortical hormones affect the biological clock and a lack of the substance lowers the body’s ability to suppress pain and infections and increases the chances of injury. Night owls should therefore exercise after 7 p.m., when their bodies secrete more adrenocortical hormones.
People with flexible schedules should exercise between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. That’s when there is maximum sunlight and temperatures are warmest, creating the best conditions for outdoor exercise.
