Samsung to Try out Phone with Own OS in India

      December 01, 2014 12:07

Samsung Electronics announced Sunday it will launch a smartphone using its own operating system Tizen in India this month.

Tizen was developed by Samsung with Intel and Panasonic. It is already installed in smartwatches Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear S, but this will be the first smartphone where Tizen can be tested.

So far, Samsung’s smartphones run on Google's Android OS.

Samsung hopes to target the emerging market with a budget model. It will be priced under US$100. The reason to premiere it in India is because the OS lacks any competitive edge over Android and Apple's iOS due to lack of software infrastructure. Very few apps are available for Tizen.
