Korean Air in Soaring Quarterly Results

Korean Air posted an operating profit of W240.7 billion in the third quarter of this year due to the fall in international jet fuel prices and the increased number of air passengers during the peak season (US$1=W1,085).

Operating profit grew 50.3 percent compared to the third quarter of 2013 as the company saved about W98 billion in fuel expenses because of lower jet fuel prices, while the number of passengers increased 2 to 3 percent.

But sales dropped 0.6 percent on-year to W3.17 trillion. "We plan to arrange flight schedules and aircraft models to better accommodate demand as well as to increase profitability," the company said in a press release. "We'll also try to open up new routes for the Southeast Asian market."
