Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited Gyeongbok Palace in Seoul on Tuesday. The royal couple arrived in Seoul on Monday for a three-day visit.
After touring the palace, they watched a re-enactment of Dutch explorer Hendrick Hamel being given an audience by King Hyojong of the Chosun Dynasty in the 17th century.
Hamel stayed in Chosun for 14 years after he was shipwrecked in Jeju Island en route to Nagasaki in 1653. On his return to his home country, Hamel published in 1668 a book describing his experiences.
