The body of the 295th victim of the April 16 ferry disaster was finally retrieved from the wreckage on Wednesday evening after a long struggle with the elements.

The body was found some 100 days after the last victim was recovered. Nine remain missing.

The families of the missing victims had stayed up all night waiting for the body to come out of the water. It took nearly 24 hours to get it out of the ship due to strong currents.

The body is believed to be Hwang Ji-hyeon, a student at Danwon High School who would have turned 18 on Wednesday. Hwang's parents held a small birthday party in memory of their daughter with a cake and 18 candles. They broke down in tears after checking the clothes.

It will take about 12 hours for a DNA test to make the identification certain.
