Sales of books and videos teaching people how to speak Korean have been rising on online shopping websites this year.
Online retailer G Market said sales of books and videos teaching Korean rose around 37 percent in the first nine months of this year over the same period of 2013. The number of countries where people bought Korean language-study materials from G Market rose from 57 last year to 76.
The increasing sales are attributed to the Asia-wide popularity of Korean TV soaps, pop music and movies.
In China, sales grew more than nine times, in Burma six times, in Sri Lanka four times and in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan more than three times.
According to G Market, sales of language-learning materials also grew in Europe -- sixfold in the Netherlands and more than three times in Ukraine.
