Golfer Choi Kyung-ju returned home on Monday to attend the golf tournament he established in 2011. After a short promotional event in Seoul, he headed to Suncheon in South Jeolla Province where the four-day K.J. Choi Invitational takes place from Thursday.
For the past three years, the tournament was successful thanks to support from CJ Group. This year, Choi found it difficult to find sponsors and a venue.
To save the event, CJ Group offered to pay a lion’s share of the cost, and Lake Hills offered to provide the venue, food and beverages.
Ryu Jin, chairman of Poongsan Corporation who contributed to the 2015 Presidents Cup in Korea, also expressed his intention to support, saying the Invitational should go on.
Choi expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to this year's event.
