North Korea sent 150 athletes to the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, 70 men and 80 women in 14 disciplines. There is speculation among organizers about what rewards await them if they win a medal.
There is talk of a luxury sedan and a flat in newly built apartment complex exclusively for sports stars in Pyongyang.
Some star athletes including Kim Hyok-bong and Kim Jong, who will compete in mixed doubles in table tennis, weightlifters Kim Un-guk and Om Yun-chol, and female marathoner Kim Kum-ok are already living in the exclusive apartment block.
Jong Song-ok, who won the world title in the women's marathon at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics in Spain, was given an apartment and a Mercedes-Benz.
A gold medal in Incheon may earn athletes a very high honor from the regime.
