Lotte Department Store will stay open during Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving. It decided to keep its three main branches open during one of Korea's biggest holidays, except on Sept. 8 to serve an anticipated rush of Chinese customers.
The stores in Sogong-dong and Jamsil, Seoul and Bujeon-dong, Busan will close only on Sept. 8. In previous years it closed for two days, but decided to stay open this year as a boost in Chinese tourists is expected during the holiday season.
Chinese customers accounted for 15 percent of total sales at the Sogong-dong branch so far this year, and 5 percent each at the outlets in Jamsil and Bujeon-dong.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Department Store will close on Sept. 8-9, and Shinsegae Department Store on Sept. 7-8.
