Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers took part in the ice bucket challenge, with help from his teammate Juan Uribe, just before a home game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.

Ryu had said that he is willing to take the challenge and make a donation.

The ice bucket challenge is a fundraising campaign for treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Notable global figures such as Bill Gates, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mark Zuckerberg, Neymar and Tiger Woods have taken part in the challenge.

The ALS Association in the U.S. has announced that US$31.5 million (US$1 = W1,024) have been raised as of Wednesday through this challenge, over 15 times more than the US$1.9 million donated a year earlier.

Those who are nominated for the challenge can either have a bucket full of ice water dumped over their head or donate US$100, and the challenge continues as they nominate three more people.

This campaign went viral after American golfer Chris Kennedy posted a video of him completing the challenge on his Facebook in June.
