Sales of the new Hyundai Genesis sedan, which was released in November, are on the rise due to increasing interest in safety following the ferry disaster in April.
Daily sales volume dropped from 170 units on average in March to 142 units in April before it jumped for three consecutive months to 178 units in May, 180 in June and 180 in July.
In terms of monthly car shipments, numbers dropped from 4,164 units in February to 2,730 in May, but started to recover to over 3,000 units in June at 3,605. The July figure was 3,047 units.
The rise has been attributed to the fact that the Genesis is widely regarded as safe. In early May, the new Genesis received top ratings in all 29 categories of a safety test by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
