Search for National Football Coach Narrowed to 3

The search for the new coach for the national football squad has been narrowed down to three foreign candidates.

Lee Yong-soo, the head of the Korea Football Association's technical committee, on Thursday told reporters, "We came up with a list of candidates and selected three coaches to give priority to."

The committee decided not to reveal their names.

But an educated guess alights on Bert van Marwijk, the Dutch coach who led the Netherlands to the semifinals in the 2010 World Cup, Portuguese manager Fernando Santos, who sent Greece into the round of 16 in this year's World Cup and Columbian Jorge Luis Pinto, who coached the Costa Rican squad in this year's World Cup.

Lee said the committee will appoint a temporary Korean coach if no candidate has been selected by September's exhibition matches against Venezuela and Uruguay.
