Hyundai Chairwoman Asks for Permission to Visit N.Korea

The chairwoman of the Hyundai Group has asked the government for permission to visit North Korea next week to mark the 11th anniversary of the death of her husband, who ran a cross-border travel business.

Industry sources say Hyun Jeong-eun and some 20 executives and staff of the group, which is not to be confused with carmaker Hyundai Motor, also want to look at the company's now-idle facilities at the Mt. Kumgang resort.

They add that Hyun plans to make a one-day visit next Monday.

If the visit is permitted, it will be Hyun's fourth since package tours to Mt. Kumgang were halted in 2008.
