The Korea Composite Stock Price Index surpassed 2,060 points for the first time in three years on Tuesday. The KOSPI closed up 0.6 percent at 2,061.9.
The last time the main index surpassed 2,060 was on Aug. 3, 2011.
Foreigners bought W980.4 billion worth of Korean shares on Tuesday, continuing 11 straight sessions of buying (US$1=W1,025). So far this month, foreigners purchased W2.94 trillion worth of Korean stocks.
Institutional investors, who switched to buying mode on Friday, purchased W131 billion worth of stocks on Tuesday.
Daily trading volume totaled more than W8 trillion, the highest in around 10 months.
