As the summer vacation season heats up, many city dwellers are heading to the beach for some relaxation. Here are some beautiful beaches worth a visit.
◆ Hakdong Mongdol Beach
Hakdong Mongdol Beach in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province offers beautiful coastal landscapes. The beach derives its name from its shape, which resembles a crane in flight.
The standout feature here is the grayish pebbles that line the shore. The sound of the tide washing over them adds to the ambiance.
◆ Daeijak Island
The nation's western coast boasts unique geographic features due to the difference between ebb and flow tides, with Daeijak Island particularly known for Puldeung Islet -- a huge sandbar that comes into view at low tide and measures 5 km by 1 km.
Due to the blazing sun, visitors may feel that they have arrived in the middle of a desert encircled by the sea. Visitors can soak up the pristine scenery for up to three hours on the islet before taking a boat back to the shore.
◆ Bijin Island
About 13 km southeast of Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province, Bijin Island is accessible by ferry. Its two tiny islets are connected by a road flanked with narrow beaches on either side, making for some memorable views.
The water is crystal clear, shallow and relatively warm, making it ideal for water sports.
◆ Goraebul Beach
Goraebul Beach in Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province is the most beautiful beach on the east coast. The clean water and gentle slope make it ideal for family vacationers.
The lush pine forest encircling the beach, coarse-grained sand and crashing waves create a picturesque scene. Visitors often take sand baths here as the sand is not sticky.
◆ Wahyeon Beach
Wahyeon Beach, also in Geoje, is considered the safest beach in the country. Due to its fan shape, the white sand beach disperses waves, reducing the danger of being washed into the sea.
So it has become a popular summer destination, especially for families with young children. A pine tree forest next to the beach adds freshness.
