Four in 10 people plan to take summer vacations between July 26 and Aug. 1, a survey revealed.
In the telephone survey of 9,000 households nationwide conducted on June 26-29 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 36.4 percent of respondents said they plan to take vacations between late July and early August. The first week of August came in second at 23.9 percent, followed by the second week of August.
In total, 74.64 million people, or 4.39 million per day on average, will hit the road for 17 days between July 25 and Aug. 10, up 2.1 percent on-year. Those planning vacations to local destinations fell from 93.6 percent to 92.3 percent over the same period, while overseas holidaymakers rose from 6.4 percent to 7.7 percent.
The ministry will increase transportation services for the peak holiday season, offering an additional 31 trains, 339 more express buses, 14 additional air flights and 234 more ferries each day.
