Cheong Wa Dae will host a special Korea-ASEAN summit in Busan on Dec. 11-12, marking the 25th anniversary of the partnership between the two sides, a spokesman said Tuesday.
The leaders of the 10 members of the trading bloc and the ASEAN secretary-general are expected to attend.
ASEAN, which is on track for an EU-style economic community in 2015, is a huge market with a combined population of 600 million and combined GDP of US$2 trillion.
This is the second special summit since 2009. It aims to further develop the strategic partnership between the two sides established in 1989.
ASEAN is Korea's second largest trading and investment partner.
