The Korean national football team returned somewhat dejectedly to Korea on Monday after coming bottom of their group in the first round of the World Cup in Brazil.
Korea failed to score a single win in the World Cup for the first time in 16 years, with one draw and two losses in Group H.
Around 20 girls supporting the team came to greet them, in a stark contrast to the hundreds supporters who greeted the team that made it to the round of 16 for the first time on away soil four years ago in South Africa.
Hong said, "We are sorry that we could not return all the support that we have received" from the public.
The team immediately disbanded at the airport. The players will take a break for the moment and return to their club teams to get ready for the next league season.
