Korea Completes Mission in Afghanistan

A consignment of Korean peacekeeping troops have finished their mission in Afghanistan and will leave after four years, the government here said Tuesday.

That completes a mission in the war-torn country that took altogether 13 years since the U.S. invasion in December 2001.

The Oshino Unit held a ceremony at the base in Bagram in the Afghan province of Parwan on Monday to mark the successful completion of its reconstruction tasks.

Korea forces carried out security and escort operations while running a hospital, a police training center, an education and culture center, and a vocational training center.
