Four out of 10 women in the capital now consider marriage an option rather than a requirement, according to a survey by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
This contrasts sharply with just 28 percent of men who view marriage as anything less than a necessity.
The survey also shows that women in Seoul are getting married later. The average age at which women get married came in at 30.4 years last year, up almost five years from 20 years ago.
Nearly half of Seoul women aged between 25 and 39 were single as of 2010, a big jump from about 20 percent in 1995.
