Korea has been placed at a lowly 90th out of 138 countries in terms of happiness.
U.S.-based Gallop says Korea scored 63 on its happiness index, on a level with the Czech Republic, Iran, Luxemburg and Kazakhstan.
Except for Denmark the top ten countries were from South and Central America. Paraguay topped the list for the third straight year, followed by Panama.
Gallup asked some 1,000 respondents over the age of 15 in each country questions like "Did you feel respected yesterday?" and "Did you have plenty of rest yesterday?" Every yes scored a point.
