Two of the three young North Koreans rescued by the Korea Coast Guard near Ulleung Island on Saturday after their ship ran adrift want to defect to the South, a Unification Ministry official said Monday.
Seoul has sent a message to North Korea that one of them will be returned Tuesday through the border truce village of Panmunjom.
Earlier, North Korea in a message urged the South promptly to return the fishermen and their boat. But the ministry official said Seoul will respect the wishes of the two fishermen who want to stay.
