Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae is hoping to add to her trophy haul at her ninth consecutive International Gymnastics Federation World Cup event in Minsk, Belarus, from Friday.
The preliminary round for hoop and ball will take place on Friday, with the clubs and ribbon events scheduled for Saturday. The top eight finishers in each event will advance to Sunday's finals.
Since last year, Son has won at least one medal in all eight World Cup competitions she has entered. In the three competitions held this year, she has won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals. After the Pesaro event in Italy, she returned to Korea on April 15.
She competed at the Korea Cup in Incheon on April 19 and 20 and had some rest before leaving for Russia on May 9 to resume training at the Novorsk Center. She was supposed to compete in another World Cup competition in Tashkent, Uzbekistan last week, but withdrew after catching a cold.
There will not be any competitions following the Minsk World Cup until August. Son will train in Croatia with the Russian national team to prepare for the World Championships in September and the Asian Games in October.
